Stanford Study: Corporate supply chain sustainability often less than meets the eye

Stanford Study: Corporate supply chain sustainability often less than meets the eye | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
“The pressure consumers put on firms when they demand more sustainable products might be paying off,” said study lead author Tannis Thorlakson, a graduate student in the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources of Stanford’s School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences. “I hope this paper acts as a call to action for those 48 percent of companies that aren’t doing anything to address sustainability challenges in their supply chain.”
EcoVadis's insight:

This large sample study reinforces the urgent need to act on sustainable supply chain. This one is focused on food, textile and wood-products, but is consistent with findings we have on other industries.

Why business is the best partner in the fight against modern slavery

Why business is the best partner in the fight against modern slavery | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
More than 40 million people are currently enslaved. Of this number, 70 per cent are trapped in forced labour, working unpaid in factories, risking their lives on fishing boats, dying as children in dilapidated mines and hidden so far down the supply chains of multinational companies that it is almost impossible to trace them. Yet there they are, locked in debt bondage or working for nothing, all in the desperate attempt to pay their masters back for the privilege of giving them work.

How are you ensuring traceability of modern slavery in your supply chain?

Q&A: How Schneider Electric’s NEO Network Is Shaping the Future of Renewables in Europe | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
The European market also presents an additional challenge that we have not faced in the US —it is a group of countries, rather than a single country, and buyers in each of these countries have their own unique needs for both local and global sourcing. However, NEO Network, and our broader suite of renewable energy and cleantech advisory services, provides support to buyers with energy load all over the world, so we are confident that this challenge is manageable, particularly given our established Energy & Sustainability Services group already active in Europe.
