Blockchain and Supply Chain a Beautiful Amalgamation

Blockchain and Supply Chain a Beautiful Amalgamation | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
Supply Chain industry will be early adopters of Blockchain, because of Shared Digital Ledger Technology. This protocol enables proof and transfer of the ownership from one entity to another entity without intervention of third party for example Banks. The value transferred at each point in the chain is chronologically recorded which will be updated and validated with each transaction, resulting in a secure, permanently recorded exchange. You also will get better traceability of any product at that point of time.

Supply chain indicators to watch this Black Friday | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
So what should supply chain managers be looking out for this season? First and foremost, make sure the right amount of inventory is available and avoid stock-outs. This has proven difficult for retailers in the past as they worked to balance inventory between storefronts and online. Last year, Walmart increased its online inventory by more than half in time for Black Friday. The goal was to increase online sales but also to ensure there was enough inventory. A few years ago, Target ran into problems with stock-outs and as a result has been improving its inventory management.

Redefining Modern Procurement

Redefining Modern Procurement | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
At that time, procurement, or more commonly known then as purchasing, was a tactical unit in the business, responsible for processing purchase orders and identifying ways to cut costs.  Their primary focus often was to make sure the shop floor had the inventory it needed, or that the front office had its closets stocked with reams of paper and toner ribbons for dot-matrix printers. Procurement was purchasing, and not much else. Sure, it dabbled in forecasting and inventory management, and might even help plan out where the next warehouse or shipment would go, but in-depth focus of functions such as strategic sourcing, diversity spending and risk modeling were all but unheard of.
