International non-profit Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has launched its 2017 policy development round, opening up six areas of the MSC program to consultation from stakeholders to improve its existing programs and develop effective and sustainable new standards. Approximately 10 percent of wild seafood worldwide is certified by the MSC Fisheries Standard and more than 3,7000 supply chain organizations are certified to buy and sell MSC-certified seafood.

Last year, Apple pledged to clean up its cobalt supply chain, but the technology giant said it wanted to avoid hurting the Congolese miners by cutting them off. Mining provides vital income for hundreds of thousands of people in what is one of the world's poorest countries.
Now, Apple says it has stopped — for now — buying cobalt from artisanal mines.

En 2015, une seule entreprise européenne, le papetier finlandais Metsa Board, composait le classement des meilleurs élèves en matière de gestion des eaux. En 2016, ils sont 12 Européens (Unilever, Fiat Chrysler ou encore L’Oréal) dans la liste des 25 groupes ayant obtenu la meilleure note.
Moins de la moitié des entreprises européennes (46%) "procèdent à une évaluation complète des risques" liés à l’eau. C’est légèrement mieux qu’en 2015 (+2%) mais cela reste faible.

On 24 January 2017, the European’s Parliamentary International Trade Committee (INTA) voted overwhelmingly to support the EU’s conflict minerals proposal.The Regulation sets up a Union system for supply chain due diligence for importers of tin, tantalum and tungsten, their ores, and gold originating in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. The Regulation, if finalized, is expected to become enforceable on 1 January 2021.

To reduce its footprint, General Mills has set a goal of cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 28 percent by 2025. It’s moving towards zero waste-to-landfill at 100 percent of its production facilities over the same timeframe. And it has committed to sustainably sourcing 100 percent of 10 key ingredients. A strict animal welfare policy, including a plan to source cage-free eggs from Canada and the United States, means that nearly all of General Mills' U.S. milk supply will comply with national animal stewardship standards.

A new report from London-based investment advisory ShareAction has called on investors to use their voting rights to urge banks to play a more proactive role in the transition to a low-carbon economy, by “providing the major injections of capital required to finance technologies, infrastructure and the transition of traditional industries, as well as to cover the costs of adaptation.” Figures from the International Energy Agency estimate that $359 trillion worth of investment is required by 2050 to ensure the world avoids global warming exceeding 2°C.
