Opinion: FTSE 100 not doing enough to tackle modern slavery | Ethical Corporation | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
At their meeting last week, Amber Rudd called on the FTSE 100 chiefs to “collaborate and share best practice”. Experience shows this is key to company success in liberating those in forced labour. Companies also need to collaborate with workers’ organisations in their supply chains; they usually know much more about where abuse of workers is occurring and why. As some of the richest companies on the world, the FTSE 100 have the opportunity to lead the charge to end modern slavery, we just need more of them to do it.

“It’s really important to design the supply chain so that there’s benefits for everybody in it,” Almack said. “The summary is that we're creating consistent livelihoods for those at the base of the supply chain, but where we've worked with brands and manufacturers, we've actually stabilized their raw material price. Brands also see the opportunity to add emotion and information at the point of purchase to connect with a certain demographic of consumers.”

What drives supply chain innovation?

Supply chains are complex, interdependent networks of people, capital and infrastructure which deliver trillions of dollars each year in global trade, providing the material goods that people everywhere need or want. Global commerce is a direct reflection – and often an accurate predictor – of economic growth or decline on local, national and regional scales. Supply chains enable global commerce which, by its very nature, is highly competitive and value-driven.
