The governments of Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana have released action plans to support industry efforts to end cocoa-related deforestation. The plans include three strategic pillars covering forest protection and restoration, sustainable cocoa production and community engagement and have been developed to strengthen transparency and accountability in the cocoa supply chain.

Cargill wants to achieve deforestation-free supply chains by 2030 by implementing a set of land-use guidelines for suppliers, gaining greater visibility into the origin of goods, and determining what percentage of its current supply chain complies with these goals, according to the company's updated Forest Policy and a company press release.

A landmark partnership between Kew and the Forest Stewardship Council is using DNA technology to help prevent illegal logging, estimated by Interpol to cost between up to £76 billion annually.
Globally renowned centre for botanical and mycological knowledge, Kew Gardens, and global forest management not-for-profit, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), have teamed up to use identification technologies that allow scientists to determine the species and origin of timber using only a small piece of the wood.  The ultimate aim is to facilitate on-the-spot tests for timber across the globe and increase transparency across the supply chain.

Mondelez pressures palm oil supply chain to go 100% sustainable

Mondelez International Inc. MDLZ, +0.34% said Monday that it has "amplified its calls" for palm oil suppliers, and the industry as a whole, to go 100% sustainable and act with 100% transparency. The company says "there is more the industry needs to do in the palm oil supply chain to prevent deforestation."
