Stephane Bilodeau's curator insight, October 24, 2016 1:16 PM
"In addition to the increased communication and visibility benefits gained from pushing sustainability down the supply chain, customers are increasingly prizing green brands.

Perhaps more importantly, though, lack of environmental or social controls on the supply chain could be considered a risk now as consumers punish companies that are not up to standards. So whether it's to meet rising standards or improve brand value, beginning the sustainability process now — even with small steps — can prove beneficial in the long run."

The necessity of sustainable supply chains

The necessity of sustainable supply chains | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it

Why Beef Sustainability Matters

Why Beef Sustainability Matters  | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
The retail market will drive that need, as consumers increasingly pressure corporations to verify their supply chains are sustainable. McDonald’s, for example, announced in 2014 its commitment to begin sourcing at least some of its beef from verifiable sustainable production chains by 2016. The company didn’t set specific goals at the time because sustainable production was not well-defined, as well as any measurable indicators of environmental, economic and social sustainability across beef production sectors.
EcoVadis's insight:

Companies such as McDonald's are quickly aiming for sourcing of sustainable beef across their supply chain; sustainability verification could become a cost of doing business in the future for them. How are you responsibly sourcing your products?
