Apple Makes New Pledges on Conflict Minerals, Should Begin Clean Congo Sourcing Program | RAISE Hope for Congo | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it

Tech giant Apple has come a long way on conflict minerals. Sustainability Arrives in Asia

Sustainability Arrives in Asia | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it

The common perception in Asia is that investors don’t care whether companies are socially and environmentally responsible—emerging markets, after all, offer high-risk, high-reward opportunities that are tough enough to realize without having to meet other goals. Of the $21 trillion worldwide, Asia is thought to manage less than 5% with an eye toward sustainability.

THAT IS CHANGING in demonstrable ways, according to new analysis from Morgan Stanley, which examines how investors are making distinctions.

Asian companies are making more green and sustainable efforts in their supply chain.

Where Business and Sustainability Meet in the Pulp and Paper Industry

Where Business and Sustainability Meet in the Pulp and Paper Industry | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it

Tracing a supply chain can be complicated. We started doing chain-of-custody auditing and certification in 1990 — creating the strong link between the forest source and the products we all consume. At first this was considered impossible.
Since then, certification programs, including chain of custody certification, have become accepted as an important part of our industry — reinforcing accountability and responsibility. Recognized, high quality third-party certification programs are not a panacea, but they can help ensure that forests are managed in a responsible, sustainable, and transparent manner.

EcoVadis's insight:
Paige Goff, VP, Sustainability and Business Communications at Domtar, and Richard Z. Donovan, Senior VP and VP of Forestry, Rainforest Alliance discuss how sustainability plays a role in pulp and paper products.

Great to see quite positive progress in terms of sustainability and CSR in businesses, at least as a start. Hoping that refined strategy and increasing concern add up in the near future.

Tyler Blackburn's curator insight, May 6, 2016 12:53 PM
This article does a great job of using real world companies as examples of what 'true' sustainability practices mean.

Where more energy efficient lighting, and recycling are all key activities in keeping our planet healthy while doing business, we also need to re-imagine the current business model.

Not only from paying workers fair wages, but souring materials from secondary sources, using those who are involved in the area, and tackling a social issue at the same time.
