The Estee Lauder Companies has announced additional Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals in a bid to advance its legacy of responsible corporate citizenship. The goals comprise actions on responsible sourcing of ingredients, including a target of 90 percent of palm-based ingredients to be certified sustainable; building upon its net-zero carbon emissions commitment to reduce emissions; and pledging that 75 to 100 percent of packaging will be recyclable, refillable, reusable, recycled or recoverable by 2025.

Global professional services company Accenture Plc announced Monday the launch of what the company calls the Circular Supply Chain: a blockchain distributed ledger that connects sustainable trade practices with producers, suppliers, processors, wholesalers and consumers. The system combines digital identity, payments and blockchain tracking to directly reward small-scale growers and suppliers for engaging in sustainable and “green” practices while providing transparency across the entire supply chain.

Bulb has grown since its launch in 2015 to become the UK's biggest renewable energy supplier after its founders recognised the energy industry was "broken". It’s been named the fastest-growing private company in the UK – now renewable energy supplier Bulb wants to expand at a quicker rate than any energy firm has ever achieved. Set up by friends Hayden Wood and Amit Gudka with the aim of keeping energy switching “simple, cheap and green”, it now supplies 850,000 UK households with 100% renewable electricity sourced from independent energy generators across the country – while 10% of its gas is renewable.

Nestlé Pakistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan to partner with the Clean Green Pakistan movement launched by the Prime Minister of Pakistan in October 2018. Clean and Green Pakistan Campaign is a much-needed initiative for Pakistan considering the low forest cover in most of the areas and poor cleanliness in rural/urban areas alike.

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership, (SGP) has set its goals for the print manufacturing on how to acheive higher levels of responsibility and sustainability. The fifth anual SGP Community Day, held in Cincinnati, included in-depth discussions on a wide range of issues that the print and retail industries are facing, specifically with respect to the circular economy, green procurement and recycling. For the cosmetics and personal industry, printing plays a large part in the production of packaging, both for labeling and for the design of secondary packaging.

EcoVadis's insight:

The concept of a ‘Circular Economy’ has been growing in prominence over the past few decades, particularly as corporate social responsibility has become increasingly integrated into mainstream business strategy. This trend is likely to continue as the current linear economic system is challenged by growing resource scarcity.
