More European companies (59 percent) said that a sustainable supply chain is already a strategic priority
European executives, like their North American counterparts, cited brand image as the most important motivator, but far fewer (36 percent versus 47 percent of North American respondents) consider innovation to be important
European supply chain executives prioritized the economic impacts of sustainability, whereas North American executives were more likely to prioritize the environmental impact
EcoVadis's insight:

Is a terminology issue masking the real differences in how US vs EU companies approach sustainable supply? This is somewhat counter-intuitive that they report EU companies prioritized economic impacts while North American execs more likely environmental impact. Is it because in the US, execs usually interpret "sustainability" to mean "environment"?

Reports on Apple's China factory reveal an urgent need for global manufacturers to improve worker conditions. A new study says it makes financial, as well as moral, sense

"Some of the labour-related investments that were modelled could cause profit margins to rise as much as 0.4% – a significant windfall in an industry where margins typically range between 1% and 2%. In some cases, this financial payback can occur in as little as four to 20 months."

This item has been corrected. It was an industrial mishap barely noticed outside the arcane world of electronics supply chains. On Sept. 4, a fire engulfed a substantial portion of an SK Hynix production plant in Wuxi, China.
