Tangible benefits of adopting such an approach include a better knowledge of supplier data, which allows for a refinement of business risk assessment in the supply chain, and improve supplier relationship. Ultimately, it is necessary in order to fulfill stakeholders' need for increased CSR disclosure and transparency, according to Jonathan Tapp, Head of Sustainability Services at Capgemini.

CDP research suggests that companies moving beyond mandatory reporting are also reducing emissions more and saving money – but suppliers aren't keeping up
EcoVadis's insight:

The new CDP supply chain report 2012 shows that transparency is somehow linked to CO2 emission reduction, which seems straightforward. However, much remains to be done as only a third of surveyed suppliers have clear reduction targets and first and foremost supplier engagement towards great transparency is key as more than 60% of suppliers never responded to the survey.
