UPM joins Together for Sustainability initiative to enhance supply chain sustainability

UPM joins Together for Sustainability initiative to enhance supply chain sustainability | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it

By joining the initiative, the member companies share a wide coverage of supplier data, such as audit reports and sustainability assessments performed by independent experts. m“UPM's traditional businesses are having high exposure to chemical industry supply chain, not only on chemical raw materials but also on equipment and services.” says Ilkka Nurmi, Senior Vice President, UPM Sourcing.  “While UPM is not a chemical company, we actively work on portfolio transformation and have a great growth potential in biofuels and biochemicals businesses where we are heavily entering the arena of chemistry.”

Making Supply Chain Sustainability in the Chemical Industry More Efficient

Making Supply Chain Sustainability in the Chemical Industry More Efficient | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
TfS  was founded in 2011 as a procurement-led initiative that develops and implements a global program to assess, audit and improve supplier sustainability practices within its member companies. Sustainability information obtained via third-party supplier assessments and audits are made available to other TfS members. This simplifies and streamlines the process to extend sustainability principles into the supply chain for manufacturers and creates an easier process for suppliers, who no longer have to complete individual, duplicative forms.
EcoVadis's insight:

We congratulate TfS on the great accomplishment growing their membership and expanding coverage of supplier sustainability monitoring.

LG Chem vows to refrain from using ‘conflict minerals’

LG Chem vows to refrain from using ‘conflict minerals’ | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it

South Korea’s leading chemicals company LG Chem said Monday it would refrain from using four “conflict materials” as part of the company’s strengthened corporate social responsibilities concerning its supply chain.  The four conflict materials include gold, coltan, tin and tungsten. These minerals are known as conflict minerals because much of the supply is sourced from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries where a decades long civil war is being waged.

EcoVadis's insight:

With the increased public attention on social responsibility, firms have to focus on ethical purchases of minerals to establish a validated, conflict-free supply chain.
