One example of such value creating integrations are the one EcoVadis has develop in the past 3 years with Supplier Information Management (SIM) platforms (ex: Ariba/SAP, Ivalua, BravoSolution, etc..). Those systems cover a much wider scope that ours (i.e. beyond CSR, including Financial, Quality, Technical information) but don't have the depth and reliably of EcoVadis on Sustainability Data.

Pressures from investors to enhance sustainable procurement practices are on the rise! At the peak of the 2012 proxy voting period, Ceres has pointed out at least 22 shareholder resolutions (from large U.S. pension funds totaling $485 billion in assets) that focus on supply chain management. Colgate and Smucker’s have agreed to source 100 percent certified sustainable palm oil to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts. Of interest are the commitments from Apple, Dell, HP and Intel to encourage or require sustainability reporting by their major suppliers.

For a large, family-owned company that plays it close to the vest, Mars Inc. boldly announcing what Reid calls "a big, audacious goal" signals the importance the world's eighth-largest food company is putting on sustainability. And that focus, Reid said, will be critical if the industry is to continue being a market leader with its iconic M&M and Snickers brands — demand for cocoa is expected to outpace supply as early as the end of the decade.


"We can't do this alone," Reid said. "If we can prime the pump, then others will get on board ... we're keen to get our competitors and suppliers and anyone who is really interested on board." Reid said he expects the industry to accept the need for a sustainable supply chain within the next year or two.

EcoVadis has just released an exclusive study, which assesses the CSR performance of more than 500 Global Compact participants.

Among the main findings, EcoVadis has uncovered that Global Compact participants are relatively less prepared to tackle issues related to the Global compact’s 10th Principle against Corruption. It also warns that a majority of them sill do not live up to minimum requirements for a satisfactory sustainable supply chain management system.

Meanwhile, other leading companies such as Accenture and UPS are using their respective business expertise in IT services and logistics to create dynamic supply chain sustainability programs that generate business opportunities. I agree that ISO 26000 is a tool for "CSR Experts", not really adapted to SME's ...but still, with the addition of assesments/scoring tools such as the one provided by EcoVadis we see this as the most powerfull global standard to date on CSR
