PLASTIC straws, cotton buds and stirrers could be banned from sale in England as early as next year in a dramatic bid to help clean up the world's oceans. Around 8.5 billion plastic straws are thrown away each year, potentially contributing to the over 150 million tonnes of plastic in the world’s oceans.

With that in mind, Theresa May is to unveil a sweeping ban on a number of products.

DRC: Israeli billionaire Dan Gertler probed by UK Serious Fraud Office over mining deals

The UK body, which investigates and prosecutes serious and complex fraud, is pursuing its three-year investigation into Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC), a Kazakh-based mining company. ENRC withdrew from the London Stock Exchange's FTSE 100 in 2013 amid allegations of corruption.
Alongside four former Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation executives, Gertler is under investigation in relation to the company's acquisition of copper and cobalt mining projects in the DRC, according to reports.

Despite Congo calling campaigns for ethical management of ethically-sourced conflict-free minerals in the DRC, a lot of abuses is still prevailing.

London Surpasses Annual Air Pollution Limits 5 Days Into 2017 | Sustainable Procurement News | Scoop.it
Under new EU rules, any single location in the UK is only allowed to breach hourly limits of 200 micrograms of NO2 per cubic metre of air 18 times in a year, but late last week, the limit was broken on Brixton Road in Lambeth for the 19th time. The breach means the UK has already violated 2017’s annual air pollutions limits just five days into the year. Remarkably, Brixton Road had 17 exceedances in just one day last week.
